NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNERS - Pushing Snow in the Municipal Right of Way
NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNERS
November 27, 2024
Due to the recent significant snowfall, we are experiencing unsafe situations where property owners are pushing snow into the right-of-way, resulting in drifting and the creation of hard-packed banks. We ask for your assistance so that the following can be avoided:
Windy conditions will cause snow to drift onto the roadway. Snow drifts cause difficulty for travellers and potentially dangerous situations if drifts become hard-packed.
Municipal equipment plows at high speed and the operator cannot always see snow pushed onto the road, especially if wind has covered the pushed pile with a new drift. As stated earlier, these pushed piles can become incredibly hard and if a grader plow or wing hits it, the result can be damage to municipal equipment and even injury to the equipment operator.
We ask for your assistance when clearing snow. Snow must be kept on private property. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your division councillor. We recognize that everyone is dealing with unusual amounts of snow and thank those who are helping to reduce unsafe conditions.
