Weed Inspectors Spring Update 2024
The trials that have been conducted in the RM 189 for Leafy spurge control are now closed. Thank you to those that participated as the trials indicated that we can control Leafy Spurge with landowner participation.
From now onward the Weed inspector will consult with the landowner on a case-by-case basis as each case will be different and will be assessed accordingly.
The Administration has come up with a cost structure that should not be too much of a financial burden for small acreages and for larger areas Marksman Vegetation has offered landowners a very reasonable cost structure. Acreage owners can still contact the Weed Inspector for chemical distribution in small quantities. (liquid and granular)
Hard copies of the 2024 Crop Protection manual are available at the RM office and can be picked up during office hours. The manual is available online at the following website: Sask Guide to Crop Protection.
That’s all for now.

Invasive Plant Species
Within Saskatchewan, plant species (weeds) may be classified as Prohibited, Nuisance or Noxious. The proper cultivation of land and control of weeds is encouraged and required of landowners. If a weed infestation is spreading due to neglect, the Weed Inspector may take action under the provisions of Saskatchewan legislation.
SARM manages the Invasive Plant Control Program (IPCP) that is used by the municipality to subsidize the purchase and application of eligible herbicides. For more details about this program, click here.

CUSTOM SPRAYING PROGRAM
In 2020, the municipality created a custom spraying program to assist landowners in the RM of Lumsden with the control of noxious and prohibited weed infestations on private property. Landowners can apply to the municipality to have the designated pesticide applicator spray requested locations. The Municipality will invoice the landowner for 100% of the cost of application and 50% of the cost of herbicide.
To apply, please fill out the Application Form and submit it to the RM Office by mail to PO Box 160, Lumsden, SK S0G 3C0, in-person at 300 James Street North, Lumsden, or by email to rm189@sasktel.net .
